On Sunday night (10/11), the rain could not keep the Philly faithful from enjoying a vibrant indie-pop dance party as Foster the People took over The Mann Center. What was supposed to be an outdoor show became a rewarding transition to the amphitheater. It was a true testament to the band's adaptability and that of everyone involved, giving the audience the full expression of the show.
The Good Mourning Sunshine Tour, covering most of North America, is in support of their latest album Paradise State of Mind. The new album and Sunday’s show proved that Foster the People continue to be visionaries who blend infectious grooves with shimmering synth-pop textures.
Mark Foster and Isom Innis commanded the stage with effortless cool and boundless energy. Mark’s soaring, distinct vocals sliced through lush layers of sound. The band delivered an airtight, high-energy set that had the entire venue moving with every song. They treated the crowd to an effortless blend of new dynamic material and career-defining staples. The crowd took particular notice, erupting into a deafening mass sing-along during Helena Beat, Sit Next to Me, and Pumped Up Kicks.
At about the midway point, Mark shared a story from their stop in Philly last year. At the beginning of that show, a fan had thrown a note on stage, and Mark placed it on his keyboard but inadvertently didn’t open it until much later in the evening, in fact, long after the show was over. However, at that moment in the show, Mark felt an urge to add a song that was not originally on the set list. The song, The Truth, was the song Mark added, and as it turns out, that’s what the fan had requested in the note. Sometimes, the universe brings it all together.
