Friday night (8/14), pop-punk heavyweights Good Charlotte completely hijacked the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion, setting the waterfront on fire with a wild, high-octane set. Joel and Benji Madden proved that over two decades deep, their riffs hit with even more snarl, swagger, and raw aggression than they did when they were terrorizing MTV.
While day-one diehards packed the pit, what made the energy truly electric was the staggering number of new, younger fans witnessing the chaos for the first time, and this whole new generation proved worthy by creating an amazing vibe that radiated from far reaches of the lawn straight to the stage. In a classic, unscripted moment that had the whole crowd losing their minds, a fan handed Joel a deck of Pokémon cards mid-set. Joel ripped right through them on stage, pulled a Scorbunny card, and held it high to a deafening roar.
Joel’s vocals were sharp and laser-focused. Benji traded blistering guitar leads and backed up the hooks with effortless, veteran cool. Their combined stage presence was a venomous, spitfire delivery that cut through the summer air like a blade. The band moved as one cohesive, well-oiled machine, radiating a genuine, electric gratitude for the decades of crowd chaos.
Overall, they tore through a lethal hit-heavy setlist loaded with essential anthems. From "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" and "Girls & Boys" to "Predictable", they displayed how these tracks are completely timeless and kept the pavilion in a state of pure, unfiltered fury. Front Row Perspective had the ultimate view as Good Charlotte proved they still hold the crown for raw, arena-sized pop-punk dominance.
