If the end of the world is coming, Harry Springer wants to make sure we’re all dancing to a fuzzed-out bassline when it hits. This past weekend at Kung Fu Necktie, the sweaty, wood-paneled heart of Philadelphia’s indie scene, Moon Walker brought their Wasteland Country Tour to an electric surge. The show was a high-octane exorcism of modern anxiety delivered with the swagger of the 1970s blended with the cynicism of the current decade.

Taking the stage under the dim glow of the Fishtown haunt, the band immediately locked into the jittery groove of "Disappearing Act." Springer, a frontman who channels the wiry energy of a young Jack White mixed with the theatrical bite of Marc Bolan, commanded the cramped stage with a jagged grace.

The setlist was a calculated descent into madness. A mid-set highlight came during "Apocalypticism," which pivoted into a bone-rattling cover of Black Sabbath’s "War Pigs." It was a bold move that bridged the gap between vintage protest rock and Moon Walker’s own brand of "doom-pop," proving that themes of greed and warmongering remain timeless.

The band leaned into their heavier influences with a sludge filled rendition of Nirvana’s "Heart Shaped Box," but they were at their most potent when pointing a finger at the screen. "The TV Made Me Do It" felt like a frantic transmission from a crumbling society, while the scathing "Ban This Song" turned the venue into a temporary sanctuary for the misunderstood.

As the night drew to a close, the floorboards flexed under the weight of the gathered collective during fan favorite "I’m Afraid I’ll Go To Heaven." Moon Walker capped the night with "Monopoly Money," a funky, cynical anthem for the broke and disillusioned. As the final feedback rang out, it was clear: the band isn't just playing music for the wasteland, they’re building a soundtrack for whatever comes after.
